Saliva...

I got this CD a few weeks ago and have listened to it several times all the way through. My first thought was that it is very good. Is it great? No, but it is a very entertaining CD with many good songs from rock to ballads. I have all but one of Saliva's CD's. That one being the very first release on the small label Red Urban Records. Saliva is a band with so much attitude and heart. The first time I heard Click, Click Boom, I was hooked. Southern Rock meets Hip Hop with a Bluesy twist. There is a lot of emotion in their music and their lyrics are strong and powerful. My favorite song is one that is close to my heart... Black Sheep. I have often felt as though I was the black sheep of my family and I can relate to the song and lyrics. One of their most popular singles is Always. There is a video of the song with the lyrics below. Check it out and give Saliva a try if you haven't heard much from them before. Great band and all their CD's are worth having in your collection!

Disturbed...

One of my all-time favorite bands is Disturbed. The sound of the vocals and their music is unique. The first time I heard the uncut version of Down With The Sickness, I was hooked. It is my favorite song of Disturbed's. The music has rage, anger, and hope as well. An interesting mix for a "Metal" band. Their new CD is in stores now and I can't wait to get it. I have the other 3 Cd's and I have to add the new one after hearing the title song and seeing the video (below). The video is unbelievable and is one that at times is hard to watch. It is the song Indestructible set to motorcycle jumps, snowmobile jumps, bicycle jumps, racing crashes, etc. Through the music it shows how we can feel indestructible in our lives... broken at times, but not destroyed. It is a good song and a very well made video... check it out.

Disturbed is a rock band from Chicago, Illinois, formed in 1996 when musicians Dan Donegan, Steve "Fuzz" Kmak, and Mike Wengren hired singer David Draiman. Willie Nelson...

38 Albums and 660 songs written, Willie Nelson is an American icon. When it comes to changing the status quo, Willie Nelson was a trailblazer. I remember hearing my first Willie Nelson song... Good Hearted Woman. The album: Wanted! The Qutlaws featured Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Jesse Colter (Jennings' wife). It was 1976 and I was 17 years of age. It gave me an appreciation for country music that has not died. I love country music... it has a soul and passion all it's own. Old school country is the heart and soul of America pure and simple. Over the years it has gone mainstream with artists such as Jim Reeves, Eddy Arnold, and Patsy Cline. In the 70's, the country-pop movement hit full steam with Glen Campbell, John Denver, Olivia Newton-John, and Anne Murray. In 1977 Kenny Roger's Lucille became one of the biggest cross-over hits of all time. In that same time the outlaw movement took off with Nelson in the lead.

I have been a fan of Willie Nelson's for so long. Regardless of his legal battles with taxes and pot, he has remained true to his country roots. Today's country is good with the likes of Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, and others, but to have an appreciation for the frontrunner's of the genre is essential. Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, David Allen Coe, and others paved the way. I for one am grateful!

Willie Hugh Nelson (born April 30, 1933) is an American country singer-songwriter author, poet and actor. He reached his greatest fame during the outlaw country movement of the 1970s, but remains iconic, especially in American popular culture. In recent years he has continued to tour, record, and perform, and this, combined with activities in advocacy of marijuana, as well as a well-publicized 2006 arrest for marijuana possession, have made him the subject of renewed media attention.

Good hearted Woman lyrics:
A long time forgotten are dreams that just fell by the way
And the good life he promised ain't what she's living today
But she never complains of the bad times or the bad things he's done
She just talks about the good times they've had and all the good times to come
She's a good hearted woman in love with a good timin' man
And she loves him in spite of his ways that she don't understand
And through teardrops and laughter they'll pass through this world hand in hand
This good hearted woman in love with her good timin' man
[ ac.guitar ]
Now he likes the night life and bright lights and good timin' friends
And when the party's all over she'll welcome him back home again
Though she don't understand him but she does the best that she can
This good hearted woman in love with her good timin' man
She's a good hearted woman...
She's a good hearted woman...

Drowing Pool's Bodies...

This is another post that I had on my horror blog and wanted it over here. Bodies is truly one of my favorite songs. I can't say that I'm a huge fan of Drowning Pool because I have not heard any other songs they have, but this song is great!

I guess yesterday started me on a little music kick. One of my favorite songs is Bodies, by Drowning Pool. This song has been used in movies and TV shows such as Jet Li's The One, Vin Diesel's XXX, Many WWE watches, and for the movie remake of Rambo. There's a video of the song at the end of this post. The song has such a hard driving repetitive sound that it grabs me by the shirt and shakes me vigorously... I love it! However, the original lead singer for the band was found dead on his tour bus in August of 2002 apparently of a form of heart disease. Unfortunately, the lifestyle many of these people lead tends to destroy their bodies and many die too young. However, As in TV and film, their music lives on. Sit back and let the music blow your speakers apart... enjoy the video!

PS: I don't condone their lifestyle, nor do I judge them for their "sins". I love the music, not necessarily the people behind it.

Daughtry...

Tina and I are big fans of American Idol... we only started watching it about 3 years ago, but have been hooked ever since. My favorite time for the show is when they have the 12 finalist. I like the competition aspect of the whole thing. I had to take Tina's car to work the other day and the Daughtry CD was in. I love this CD. He has an incredible voice and his music is very strong. He came in 4th the year he was on Idol which is crazy in my mind. Taylor Hicks won... Taylor Hicks??? Haven't heard anything worth listening too from that guy. Any way, Daughtry is a great band and I love the song Over You. There's a video of it at the end of this post... check it out!

Daughtryis a rock band from North Carolina, formed and fronted by former American Idol finalist Chris Daughtry in 2006. Their self-titled debut album was released in 2006. The disc reached number one for two non-consecutive weeks on the Billboard 200, outsold Idol winner Taylor Hicks' debut effort, sold more than four million copies and was named the number one selling album of 2007 by Billboard. Their album is also the fastest-selling debut rock album in Soundscan history.[7] The first single from the album, "It's Not Over", was the eighth most played song across all formats on U.S. radio in 2007, and their second single from the album, "Home", was the tenth most played song in the U.S. of 2007

Current members:
Chris Daughtry - lead vocals, guitar (2006-present)
Josh Steely - lead guitar (2006-present)
Brian Craddock - rhythm guitar (2007-present)
Josh "JP" Paul - bass guitar, backing vocals (2006-present)

Staind (pronounced "stained") is an American rock band from Springfield, Massachusetts, including lead singer/guitarist Aaron Lewis, lead guitarist Mike Mushok, bassist/vocalist Johnny April and drummer Jon Wysocki. Over the past nine years the band has recorded six studio albums, had multiple chart topping singles, and sold over 15 million records worldwide.

I was driving home from work last night and heard Staind's All I Want is You. This song is on their latest CD which is The Illusion of Progress, which Molii got for me for Christmas. Great CD and I love this song. The song was also featured in the vampire movie Twlight. I have all their Cd's and absolutely love this group. The CD Chapter V is their greatest hits collection and I highly recommend getting a copy of this CD. I saw this group about 8 years ago when they were touring with Godsmack and it was a great concert. The band's style is dark and angry which is so appealing to me. Their music has a hard driving edge to it, yet they have so many softer ballads in their repertoire that they are the total package as a band for my taste. I recommend checking out their music... it will not disappoint. There is a video of the song All I Want is You below. Check it out!

Studio albums:
1996: Tormented
1999: Dysfunction
2001: Break the Cycle
2003: 14 Shades of Grey
2005: Chapter V
2008: The Illusion of Progress

Live and Collective Soul...

This was an August 2008 post I did on my horror blog and I wanted it over here. These two groups are great and seeing them in concert was a pleasure. It was one of the best concerts I've been too. As I have said before, I love it when bands play to the audience and not just for the audience. These two bands know how to get the crowd involved. Great music and great performances. If you ever get the chance to see them, you really should! You won't be disappointed!

Original Post:
I'm thrilled and amazed that Matt, my stepson bought tickets for Tina and me to see Live, Collective Soul, and Blues Travelers at Meadowbrook in Gilford, NH for TOMORROW!!! I LOVE Live and Collective Soul! My favorite Collective Soul song is The World I Know... video of it at the end of this post. My favorite Live song is Lighting Crashes... video below! We will be going with Matt and several other friends. It will be a great concert! Other than horror movies, music is my other obsession. Over the past 9 years I have bought over 150-200 CD's. I've been in BMG Music Group since 2000 and many, many of the CD's were free (just pay shipping). Several years ago Tina and I went to Meadowbrook and saw Blues Traveler and it was a really good show. Meadowbrook is a GREAT place to see a concert. We've seen Skynyrd there 5 times! If we could afford it, we would go so much more. Tina and I have a very deep and abiding love, not just for each other, but for music as well. While our taste differ, I tend toward the more "out there" music, we still appreciate the talent it takes to write and sing music well. Any way... I can hardly wait!!! Here's a link to Meadowbrook so you can see what a great place it is and all the good concerts that are there...

Brian Hugh Warner (born January 5, 1969), better known by his stage name Marilyn Manson, is an American musician as well as an artist, known for his outrageous stage persona and image as the lead singer of the eponymous band. His stage name was formed from the names of actress Marilyn Monroe and convicted murderer,[21] Charles Manson.

I only have one Manson CD and it is Lest We Forget... his greatest hits. I am a fan of his work. I like his in your face attitude as well as an if you don't like it... too bad attitude. I love his sound from hits like Mobscene, The Dope Show, and The Beautiful People. The video below is a great cover of Tainted Love. I have to believe that Marilyn Manson owes a great debt to a predecessor named Alice Cooper. There can be many comparisons between Cooper and Manson, and not just in their names. Attitudes, stage presence, and a distinctive sound are several similarities between the two. Another similarity that cannot be overlooked is that both came from very religious families. Cooper's dad was a minister and Manson went to christian school. So my question would be, were they just rebelling against religion in general, or just their parents??? Interesting to consider what would make either of these men choose the path they took. All I know is, I'm glad they did... I enjoy their music.

Cold... A Different Kind of Pain...

This is a post I had on my horror blog several months ago and wanted it over here... where it belongs. I have since heard more about a reunion for Cold and hope that it does come soon..

Reunion: According to a post from Kelly Hayes on Facebook, Cold may have another album coming out. On July 25, 2008, a blog written by Ward on The Killer and the Star's MySpace confirmed the rumors of both a b-sides/rarities release and a new Cold album featuring the original line-up, due Fall 2009. In January 2009 Cold officially announced the first dates of it's reunion tour on the bands MySpace page. It is as yet unclear who is included in this "original lineup," as Terry Balsamo parted ways with the band to join Evanescence, and others left due to creative differences after the third studio album.

Original Post:
A few weeks ago The Vault of Horror had a post dealing with fans of horror movies and their "love" of heavy metal/rock music. I found this post to be very interesting because I am a huge fan of the harder type of music. Although I agree to this idea for the most part, I think it is too broad of a generalization to say all horror fans love hard music. My wife Tina is one of the biggest horror fans I know and she basically hates most of the music I like. So there is a 50/50 split in our home. If you listen to most music on horror movies, you will find a hard driving music theme throughout. I have the sound track to the horror movie Queen of the Damned and it has Jonathan Davis (Korn), Disturbed, and a few other metal type bands on it. Jonathan Davis was responsible for the sound track and it is really dark and heavy, but it works for the movie. One of my favorite CD's. I guess I just believe that type of music works better with horror movies than say a lighter style of music.

So, is it coincidence or is there a very real connection between the music and the genre??? Not really sure, but it is a very interesting debate.

Since I'm dealing mostly with music today, I really wanted to put a music video on my blog today. I put Cold's CD... A Different Kind of Pain in my CD player yesterday when I was driving home from North Conway. The song, A Different Kind of Pain is one of my very favorite songs. I saw this band about 7 years ago at The Whitamore Center on the campus of UNH. They were touring with Godsmack, Staind, and Systematic. It was one of the best concerts I have ever gone too... not that I've gone to thousands, but I have seen my share over the past 10 years. I was not all that impressed with Cold at the time, but since then, I have really become a fan. Unfortunately, the band has gone through many changes (members) and at this time is basically gone their separate ways. Too bad... vocalist Scooter Ward has an awesome voice and great songwriting abilities. Hopefully, he will get something else going... there may be a reunion in the works. Enjoy the video!

Lyrics:
Before I let you go,
Give me just one more night to show you just how I feel.
I lost all my control.
If it takes my whole damn life, I'll make this up to you.
Kind of like the waves
That roll their whole life towards somewhere crashing on the shore
It's blown in by the wind that carries the clouds to
hide my wish on a fallen star.

A different kind of pain,
Is someone there to hold you?
Is someone there to take you away from me?
A different kind of pain,
Is someone there to hold you?
Is someone there to take you away from me?

I tried to let you go.
I wish I could turn back time,
And show you just how I feel.
I needed you to know.
If it takes my whole damn life,
I'll make this up to you.

Kind of like the waves,
That roll their whole life towards somewhere,
Crashing on the shore.
It's blown in by the wind,
That carries the clouds to hide,
My wish on a fallen star...

A different kind of pain,
Is someone there to hold you?
Is someone there to take you away from me?
A different kind of pain,
Is someone there to hold you?
Is someone there to take you away from me?

Before you let me go away,
Before you let me go away,
Before you let me go away,
Before you let me go away,
I needed you to know.

A different kind of pain,
Is someone there that to hold you?
Is someone there that to take you away from me?
A different kind of pain,
Is someone there to hold you?

Inxs...

I was sitting here this morning after shoveling a pathway on the deck for the fuel guy, so he could get to the pipe and fill our tank. I hit #23 on the CD player and it was Inxs, Kicks. I have to admit, I really liked their sound. It was a fun, hopeful sound with a tap your toe type of music that really made you feel good. Kicks was my favorite CD of theirs and I really believe Inxs didn't get the full respect and credit they deserved. This is one of the better Cd's out there that should be in every one's collection. New Sensation, Devil Inside, Need You Tonight, and Mediate are now classics in their own right. I found a video of them covering Steppenwolf's, Born to be Wild... good cover! The band was together for 20 years before the death of their front man Micheal Hutchence. They began in 1977 and in my mind brought the world some really fine music. Thought provoking at times, but always great to listen too. Check out the video and you can see how powerful Hutchence's was on stage. He was the focus of the group, and I think Inxs died when he did...

Rob Zombie...

The first time I heard More Human Than Human, I was hooked on the Zombie style and sound! White Zombie had a unique sound and the lyrics were often times based on horror movies and fantasy, unlike many bands and artist who are writing about life experiences, the Zombie sound was "other worldly." After the band broke up in 1998, Rob Zombie continued with a very successful solo career. I have several of his Cd's, but I love his greatest hits CD. Titled Past, Present, and Future this CD has everything worth having from White Zombie and his solo career before 2003. So anything from Educated Horses is not included. It's a great CD! I have a video of a duet with Rob Zombie and Lionel Richie doing a cover of the Commodores Brick House. AWESOME! Also check out the video of More Human Than Human... good stuff!

Rebel Meets Rebel...

For those of you that have XM radio, you will want to check out channel 48. When I had my XM up and running, Squizz 48 was my favorite music channel. NO COMMERCIALS!!!! Any way, I have since stopped the XM only because I'm not in my truck as much as I used to be. I heard a song a few years ago on XM called "Get outta my life" and they said it was David Allen Coe (DAC) and former members of Pantera. The song kicked ass! I found the CD on my BMG music page and picked it up. There is a unique quality about this CD that you will not hear on very many Cd's. David Allen Coe is old school country. Those of you old enough to remember Waylon and Willie and all the old country "outlaws" will remember DAC. In 1984, Mona Lisa Lost Her Smile hit #2 on the Hot Country Singles & Tracks. He had a few other hits, but Mona Lisa was his highest charting song... one I remember very well. I would have to say that I have never been a very big Pantera fan and was not bothered when they broke up. However, I did respect the music and their sound. They would tour around Texas as The Cowboys From Hell and I thought it was cool that a heavy metal band would have some very strong country roots. So I knew I had to have this CD. It is great! The fact that Dimebag was murdered means that this collection of artist cannot be together again. This is their only collaboration that I am aware of and I am very happy to be able to play it loud and proud! Check out the video below and do yourself a favor and pick this CD up.

David Allen Coe...

Rebel Meets Rebel was an outlaw country crossover project with David Allan Coe on vocals and guitar, Dimebag Darrell on guitar & back-up vocals, Rex Brown on bass, and Vinnie Paul on drums. The project resulted in the self-titled album Rebel Meets Rebel. The music was written and recorded by the band when the musicians had time aside from their other projects, including Pantera's world tour supporting Reinventing the Steel.

Originally the song Rebel Meets Rebel was supposed to be released as a duet with Coe and Phil Anselmo.[1]

Another appearance on the album was Hank Williams III providing vocals on the track "Get Outta' My Life" alongside David Allan Coe.

The album was released on May 2, 2006, under Vinnie Paul's own label Big Vin Records, posthumously after Dimebag Darrell's murder in 2004.

Billy Powell...

I was very saddened to hear of the death of Billy Powell. Tina and I have been huge Skynyrd fans for many years. I never got to see the original band in concert, but Tina and I saw the "Second Time Around" version 5 times at Meadowbrook US Cellular Pavilion in Gilford, NH (http://www.meadowbrook.net/). We understood that this was not the original band. At that time it only had 2 or 3 original members. That didn't matter at all. If you closed your eyes and listened to Freebird, you were transported back to the early 70's in your mind. The "new" Skynyrd was fronted by Johnny Van Zant, the younger brother of Ronnie. We loved going to Skynyrd concerts because the music was great. The stage presence of this band was powerful. The love they had for their music was evident and the love they had for their fans was felt at every concert. The only original member now is Gary Rossington. Their latest concerts have been canceled. Will they tour again... I don't know. They could get another piano player... but Billy Powell will be greatly missed. Dead at the age of 56...

You can check out all the bio's and history of the band at their official website: http://www.lynyrdskynyrdhistory.com/bios.html

Death:
On January 28, 2009, the keyboardist died at the age of 56 at his home in Orange Park, Florida. Powell called 911 at 12:55 a.m., complaining of shortness of breath. He missed his appointment with the doctor on the day before his death; the appointment was for a checkup on his heart.[1] The EMS responders found Powell unconscious and unresponsive, with the telephone still in his hand. Rescue crews performed CPR, but he was pronounced dead at 1:52 am. A heart attack was the suspected cause of death, but an autopsy was not performed.

Gavin Rossdale - Love Remains The Same...

Last night we had to take Molli to Boston for an audition. On the way there I throw in my Gavin Rossdale CD so that Tina could hear it. She likes the song Love Remains The Same, but had not heard the whole CD because it was in my truck. She liked it a lot and I was pleased. Tina does have a passion for music, but not exactly the same taste as I have. She likes a lot of variety, which would include Classic Rock, Country, some Pop, but not much of the head banging stuff I love. That's cool with me, because it's all about the music... what moves you might not move someone else. This is a post I had put on my horror movie blog after I heard the titled song on the radio. I thought it would be better suited over here! Enjoy!

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gavin McGregor Rossdale (born 30 October 1965)[1] is a British[2] musician most famous for being the lead singer and guitarist of the former rock band Bush and later the lead singer and guitarist of Institute, which broke up in 2006 after only one album.

I don't often put music or artist on my blog that are not in some way affiliated with horror. However, I have to make an exception with Gavin Rossdale. I was listening to the radio a couple days again and I heard a song that really sounded great to me. As is often the case with most radio stations, they don't tell you the name or artist of the song after the song ends. I heard the song again this morning after my eye appointment and I was hooked on it. As some of you know, I love music probably more than movies and just about anything else... except Tina of course! My fascination with music began at a very young age. Music, like no other media touches or moves you with lyrics and sound. However, I'm much more drawn to the sound of the music than the lyrics. That's why I can like a groups music even if I don't agree with their lifestyle or political views.

Gavin Rossdale was the former lead singer of Bush. A group I liked, but not a huge fan. They had several songs in the mid 90's that were really good... Countdown and Glyerine being my favorites. In 2002 he married Gwen Stefani the lead singer of No Doubt. The song I have the video to is Love Remains The Same. It is an awesome song. Check out the video and listen to it several times...
